We’ve all hit that wall – that plateau that every blogger reaches where you feel like you’ve simply stopped growing. It’s a challenge to break out of that spot, but often doing so can mark a critical turning point in your blogging career.
If you’re trying to break through to the next level in your blog, here are some tips that may help:
1. Feature a strong call to action
A crucial part of a blogger’s growth is interaction, interaction, interaction. Remember,it’s a push and pull between content creator and content consumer, and a key method to sparking a conversation is by posing a compelling question at the end of your blog, something that’s practically a beacon for responses.
This can also easily work for things like social media— instead of simple posting the blog title with a link, ask a question (and be sure to engage with those who answer your question).
It’s simple, but listening can easily lead to that burst you’re looking for. It’s important, even essential, for bloggers to be true to their voice and to focus on self-inspired content, but don’t forget to take into consideration suggestions from your audience.
Whether it’s regular blog readers or just someone who’s stumbled upon your recent post— if a suggestion sparks your interest, chances are it will spark other’s interest as well. In that same vein, not everyone thinks to use those platforms as resources for content ideas.
Where else can you find interesting content idea? How about social content that gets higher than normal engagement? If a fan or follower poses a question that warrants more than a tweet or Facebook response, write a blog post. If there’s a question that is asked with regularity, answer it with a blog post.
3. Focus on quality – and quantity
Writing creative posts that are motivating, curated and interesting is far more important than simply regurgitating thousands of words of been-there-done-that content on the daily.
But on the technical side, longer blog posts can equal a better placement in search engines results. The average length of content for a web page that ranks in the top 10 results for any keyword on Google has at least 2,000 words. Pro tip: never underestimate the power of data-driven SEO.
4. Embrace Influencer Campaigns
Sounds like a given, especially coming from FYI, right? Getting paid for your blog content will, in theory, give you more time to focus on your blog’s growth. But influencer campaigns provide much more than a source of income for genuine and interesting content, they also offer a new way of looking at things. And they also give you variety.
Here’s a good example – earlier this year FYI approached a series of lifestyle and family bloggers with a campaign idea – recycling old tires, as part of a larger campaign with Discount Tire.
A garden planter, a dog bed, a pink tire swing, and a variety of other innovative and unique pieces of content. All totally different, all generating totally different content, all based on different ways of looking at the same thing.
